Mission

The Center for Understanding Islam seeks to present an enlightened understanding of Islam in America. Our focus is education and we emphasize the common humanity of people of all faiths, rather than taking sides on political issues. We urge everyone to distinguish between the true teachings of Islam as a faith and the diverse cultural traditions of Muslim societies. Actions of a tiny minority of extremist Muslims cannot be used to define the faith tradition itself. Moderate Muslims have an obligation to take back their faith from those who have hijacked it for their political purposes

Goals & Objectives

• Organize workshops and seminars on Islam
• Publish discussion guides, articles, and books on  FAQs (frequently asked questions)
• Provide commentators for radio, TV, and the print media
• Marshal expertise on issues of conscience from Muslim and non-Muslim scholars
• Organize retreats for Muslim and non-Muslim youth and community leaders
• Organize a Speakers Bureau on Islam.
