CUI condemns in the strongest terms the failed bombing attempt in Times Square, New York. We join leaders of CAIR, MPAC, ISNA, and many other Muslim organizations who have issued statements of condemnation of this attempted attack on the City of New York. View video of today's CAIR news conference.
We applaud the fast pace of investigation and apprehension of a suspect and urge that he and anyone else involved be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
December 25, 2009 CUI strongly condemns the terrorist attempt by a Nigerian extremist on Christams day and challenges the worldwide Muslim community to confront the AlQaeda scourge of radicalization of Muslim youth with effective educational programs at the mosques and community centers. November 5, 2009 CUI condemns in the strongest possible terms the wonton act of horrific violence at Fort Hood, Texas that resulted in the deaths of a dozen soldiers and injuries to many others. We offer our sincere condolences to the families of those killed and pray for the full recovery of those injured. We also urge the media to avoid generalizations about any faith community. We have joined in the innumerable condemnations of terror by national Muslim organizations in the past, including the online anti-terror petition drive called “Not in the Name of Islam,” initiated by CAIR followed by its television public service announcement (PSA) campaign against religious extremism and coordinated a “fatwa,” or Islamic religious ruling, against terrorism and extremism. ***** May 21, 2009 The Center for Understanding Islam applauds the FBI and other agencies in helping to prevent the execution of alleged plans to attack synagogues in New York and against members of the US military. We condemn unequivocally violence against innocent people or property in the name of Islam. There is no religious justification in Islam for the violent actions these suspects are alleged to have planned. Like all Americans, Muslims must remain vigilant and cooperate openly with law enforcement agencies to prevent any violence against anyone based on hate of other people. Media outlets and public officials also should refrain from blaming mainstream Islam and to avoid fanning anti-Muslim fear and stereotyping. ***** CUI Condemns Attacks in Mumbai CUI unequivocally and strongly condemns the cowardly attacks on a number of sites in Mumbai in India that left more than 100 people dead and many more injured. We offer sincere condolences to the loved ones of those killed or injured in these senseless and inexcusable acts of violence against innocent civilians. We call for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages taken during the attacks regardless of their national origin. As American Muslims, we stand with our fellow citizens of all faiths in repudiating all acts of terrorism, which are against the teachings of Islam and cannot be justified no matter what the grievances of the perpetrators might be. ***** |
